The Deity My\u014dken<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n

Hokushin My\u014dken Sonj\u014d-\u014d (the Venerable Star King My\u014dken of the North Star \/ \u5317\u8fb0\u5999\u898b\u5c0a\u661f\u738b), in short often referred to as My\u014dken (\u5999\u898b), is the divine Shinbutsu-Sh\u016bg\u014d (syncretism of Shint\u014dism and Buddhism \/ \u795e\u4ecf\u7fd2\u5408) embodiment of the North Star, known in Japan as Hokushin (North Star \/ \u5317\u8fb0) or Hokkyokusei (North Pole Star \/ \u5317\u6975\u661f), the unmoving axis of the heavens. The King of Stars and the Northern Heavens<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n

From ancient times, the North Star has been standing immovable in the turning heavens, a symbol of cosmic order and unwavering orientation. As its divine embodiment, My\u014dken has since more than 1,500 years ago been revered by warriors, travellers, and seekers of clarity alike, offering protection and guidance in times of conflict and uncertainty, as well as strength in battle and in moments which require decisive action.<\/p>\r\n

The kami (deity \/ \u795e) My\u014dken is also inseparably linked to the seven stars of the constellation of the Hokuto Shichisei (Big Dipper \/ \u5317\u6597\u4e03\u661f), whose eternal rotation around the Hokushin (North Star \/ \u5317\u8fb0) has been perceived as the celestial order governing time, seasons, fate, and the rhythm of life itself. From this sacred vision of the northern sky arose the concept of the Sei\u014d (King of Stars \/ \u661f\u738b), a title by which My\u014dken himself is also known. As the celestial sovereign at the center of the heavens, the North Star came to embody My\u014dken as the astral pivot around which all other stars revolve \u2014 the divine center commanding celestial order and maintaining harmony within the universe.<\/p>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n

The Protection and Guidance of My\u014dken<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n

My\u014dken has been and continues to be venerated in particular as the guardian kami (deity \/ \u795e)<\/em> of warriors and horses, whose lives on the battlefield depended on courage, strength and endurance. Furthermore, My\u014dken is also revered as the silent protector\r\n of farmers, whose lives, in their own way, are likewise shaped by courage, strength, perseverance and steadfast determination amidst the changing heavens and seasons.<\/p>\r\n

Als Verg\u00f6ttlichung des Nordsterns wurde My\u014dken dar\u00fcber hinaus als g\u00f6ttlicher Besch\u00fctzer von Reisenden, Seefahrern und Navigatoren verehrt. Lange vor dem Zeitalter von Karten und Kompassen f\u00fchrte der Nordstern die Menschheit durch Dunkelheit\r\n und Ungewissheit. My\u014dken wurde zur Verk\u00f6rperung dieser leitenden Kraft, die sichere Wege \u00fcber Meere, Berge und unbekannte Pfade gew\u00e4hrte, und bleibt daher bis heute eine Gottheit, der Reisen \u2013 sowohl k\u00f6rperliche als auch spirituelle\r\n \u2013 anvertraut werden.<\/p>\r\n

At the heart of the veneration of My\u014dken lies a truth that is both simple and profound: the only constant in the universe is change. Whilst all things change, the Hokushin (North Star \/ <\/em>\u5317\u8fb0)<\/em> remains unmoving.\r\n My\u014dken is the divine embodiment of this constancy: the eye that never wavers, the guide who never leaves his post. To stand before My\u014dken is to realign oneself with the axis of the heavens, to find one\u2019s bearings again\n in a spinning world, and to entrust one\u2019s life to the eternal order inscribed in the stars.<\/p>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n

The Divine Imagery of My\u014dken<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n

My\u014dken wird h\u00e4ufig in Gestalt einer Kriegergottheit dargestellt, die ein Schwert \u00fcber ihrem Haupt erhoben h\u00e4lt. In dieser Darstellung steht das Schwert nicht zwangsl\u00e4ufig f\u00fcr Aggression, sondern f\u00fcr Wachsamkeit, rechtschaffene St\u00e4rke\r\n und die Kraft, Chaos und Unheil entgegenzutreten. Dar\u00fcber hinaus symbolisiert es die g\u00f6ttliche Autorit\u00e4t, jene Kr\u00e4fte zu \u00fcberwinden und niederzuschlagen, die sich diesen Prinzipien widersetzen, und dient somit als Besch\u00fctzer der\r\n kosmischen Ordnung und Harmonie durch das Schwert.<\/p>\r\n

Als himmlische Verk\u00f6rperung des Hokushin (Nordstern \/ <\/em>\u5317\u8fb0)<\/em> wird My\u014dken nur selten allein dargestellt. An seiner Seite befindet sich sein treuer W\u00e4chter, sein standhaftes Reittier und sein unersch\u00fctterlicher Verb\u00fcndeter:\r\n Genbu (der Schwarze Krieger \/ <\/em>\u7384\u6b66)<\/em>, das mythische g\u00f6ttliche Wesen und der heilige W\u00e4chter des n\u00f6rdlichen Himmels. In traditionellen Darstellungen erscheint Genbu entweder als mythische Drachen-Schildkr\u00f6te, die mit\r\n einer Schlange verflochten ist, oder in der Gestalt des furchterregenden Kokury\u016b (dem Schwarzen Drachen des N\u00f6rdlichen Himmels \/ <\/em>\u9ed2\u9f8d)<\/em>. Within the Hokushin-Shink\u014d (worship of the North Star \/ \u5317\u8fb0\u4fe1\u4ef0), Genbu is also directly revered as the deification of the Hokuto Shichisei (Big Dipper \/ \u5317\u6597\u4e03\u661f), portraying its seven stars in the shape of the Kokury\u016b (the Black Dragon of the Northern skies \/ \u9ed2\u9f8d). In such depictions, the stars themselves form the body of the dragon, transforming the celestial movement of the northern heavens into a living sacred being.<\/p>\r\n

This imagery carries a profound cosmological understanding. As the Hokuto Shichisei (Big Dipper \/ \u5317\u6597\u4e03\u661f) revolves through the seasons around the unmoving Hokushin (North Star \/ \u5317\u8fb0), Genbu in the shape of the Kokury\u016b (the Black Dragon of the Northern skies \/ \u9ed2\u9f8d) came to embody the active and dynamic force of heaven itself. While My\u014dken represents the unmoving celestial power and the divine axis of order, Genbu manifests the movement and protective power surrounding that center. Thus, Genbu appears not merely as guardian of the northern heavens, but as the living embodiment of their strength and motion \u2014 the celestial force eternally circling and protecting the sacred center of the stars.<\/p>\r\n

Together, My\u014dken and Genbu embody the complementary principles of the northern heavens: celestial guidance and constant support, divine authority and enduring protection. Their relationship expresses an ancient truth carried within the symbolism of the Hokushin (North Star \/ \u5317\u8fb0) and the seven stars of the Hokuto Shichisei (Big Dipper \/ \u5317\u6597\u4e03\u661f): that even the highest order of heaven does not stand in isolation, but exists through harmony, trust, and the interdependence of all things beneath the celestial sphere.<\/p>\r\n

Wie My\u014dken selbst kann auch der Mensch mit Klarheit, St\u00e4rke und Zielstrebigkeit erstrahlen und wie der Nordstern im Zentrum des Himmels leuchten. Doch ohne die standhafte Unterst\u00fctzung eines vertrauensw\u00fcrdigen Gef\u00e4hrten vermag dieses\r\n Licht weder zu bestehen noch seinen Willen in der Welt zu verwirklichen. Genbu erinnert an dieses tiefere Prinzip: dass wahre St\u00e4rke nicht allein in einsamer Gr\u00f6\u00dfe zu finden ist, sondern in den unersch\u00fctterlichen Bindungen, die sie\r\n tragen und besch\u00fctzen. The Many Names of My\u014dken<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n

My\u014dken, often in worship also referred to as My\u014dken-sama (Lord My\u014dken \/ \u5999\u898b\u69d8), has been known by many names throughout history. Across different regions, traditions, and schools of thought, he came to be invoked under various titles, each reflecting a distinct aspect of his divine nature and celestial authority. Some names emphasize his connection to the North Star and the heavens, while others express his role as a bodhisattva, protector, and sovereign among the stars. Nevertheless, all these names point to the same sacred presence: the guiding deity of the northern heavens, whose light has inspired devotion across the centuries.<\/p>\r\n
